UNITED FOR DEMOCRACY WELCOMES NATIONAL PARTNERSHIP FOR WOMEN & FAMILIES TO COALITION CALLING ON CONGRESS TO REIN IN THE EXTREME SUPREME COURT

Following the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to gut Roe v. Wade,  and as the Court is expected to release more opinions ignoring precedent, the National Partnership for Women & Families joins forces with United for Democracy to expose the extreme justices’ ongoing assault on our democracy.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, United for Democracy (UFD) — a new nationwide campaign to educate Americans about the impact today’s Supreme Court is having on their lives, freedoms, and democracy — is proud to welcome the National Partnership for Women & Families (NPWF) to the coalition. NPWF advocates for women’s policies at the intersection of health and reproductive justice along with workplace and economic justice.

Following the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to gut Roe v. Wade, and as the Court is expected to release more opinions that ignore precedent and judicial norms — NPWF will join forces with 100+ partners involved in United for Democracy to engage the public around the Court’s egregious oversteps. As part of the coalition, they will highlight how the current Court has consistently dismantled bodily autonomy and made our democracy work only for the elite few.

United for Democracy is unprecedented in its size and scope. With NPWF’s support, the campaign representing tens of millions of Americans, will harness growing outrage at extreme justices to mobilize the American people, advocates, experts, and political leaders and demand that Congress rein in the Court.

“The National Partnership has long been a leader in expanding access to our democracy through our courts,” said NPWF President Jocelyn C. Frye. “Since my early days as a staff attorney for our organization, we have always believed that a fair and just Supreme Court should uphold the values of equality and justice for all, as affirmed by our Constitution. Unfortunately, the current Court has taken an extremist view of women’s rights and bodily autonomy and also stands poised to roll back other bedrock freedoms. It’s vital for Americans to understand what’s at stake and what they can do to fight back. We’re proud to join with United for Democracy and all our diverse partners to help shed light on these issues.”

“Following the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the freedoms of women and their families continue to hang in balance. People simply should not be denied critical health care at the hands of extremists on the Court,” said Stasha Rhodes, Campaign Director of United for Democracy. “We are grateful that the National Partnership for Women & Families is joining our effort to demand accountability from this Supreme Court. We are so proud and honored to have this crucial organization join our coalition for a just Supreme Court.”

Founding members of United for Democracy include the American Federation of Teachers, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, League of Conservation Voters, Giffords, National Education Association, Fair Fight Action, SEIU, NARAL Pro-Choice America, MoveOn, March For Our Lives, Black Voters Matter Fund, Alliance for Justice, LUCHA, Texas Gun Sense, Keystone Progress Education Fund, Wisconsin Voices For Peace, UltraViolet, and more.
