UNITED FOR DEMOCRACY: EXTREME SCOTUS PUTS ITSELF IN CHARGE OF MEDICATION ABORTION ACCESS
Washington, D.C. – Today Stasha Rhodes, Campaign Director of United for Democracy, issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to grant certiorari in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
“Mifepristone is a safe, effective, FDA-approved medication that more than five million people have used over the last two decades. And now, only a year since the extreme right-wing majority on the Supreme Court reversed the constitutional right to abortion, the Court is once again in a position to ignore facts and precedent, this time to undermine access to safe, effective abortion medication.
“This didn’t happen by accident. From threatening access to mifepristone to using the lower courts to try to shut down Planned Parenthood in Texas, anti-abortion politicians and right-wing judicial activists are weaponizing our courts to push an agenda the vast majority of Americans reject, including restricting access to reproductive health care. United for Democracy will continue calling out this extremism and fighting to stop politicians–and politicians in robes–from getting in the way of health care people need.”
