Supreme Court’s Relentless Power Grab Continues As Extreme Right-Wing Justices Hear Case to Gut Emergency Abortion Care
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on a case that could gut abortion care in emergencies. Stasha Rhodes, Campaign Director of United for Democracy — a coalition of 130+ state and national organizations calling on Congress to fix the broken Supreme Court – issued the following statement:
“Less than two years after the three Donald Trump-appointed MAGA justices helped overturn our abortion rights, those same justices are threatening to uphold an outrageous law that prohibits medical professionals from providing abortion care in emergency situations. The supermajority could not be more clear: our lives are the cost of advancing their extremist anti-abortion agenda.
“So long as these justices remain unchecked in their relentless power grab, the attacks on our rights and freedoms will not stop. The Court is serving its network of right-wing special-interest groups, mega-donors, and strategists and the American people are paying the price.
“It doesn’t have to be this way. Congress has the authority to fix the Supreme Court. Now, our Members must make a choice: either stand with their constituents and boldly commit to fixing the broken Court, or stand with the MAGA justices as they further threaten our lives as the price of their agenda. The American people are calling on them to choose our freedoms. We need action.”
