TEMPORARY REPRIEVE FROM THE MAGA JUSTICES’ RELENTLESS POWER GRAB IS NO CAUSE TO PRAISE THIS COURT
Washington, D.C. – Today, the Supreme Court handed down its ruling in Consumer Financial Protection Bureau v. Community Financial Services Association of America, opting not to gut the CFPB’s funding structure. Stasha Rhodes, Campaign Director of United for Democracy, issued the following statement.
“We are relieved that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau — the only agency focused on preventing the multi-trillion dollar financial services industry from exploiting the American people — will live to fight another day. However, we know that this is just momentary relief in the relentless power grab that seeks to further weaponize our courts to help the ultra rich and powerful get richer and more powerful, while leaving our communities to pay the price.
This case is just one in a series this term sent straight from the MAGA Fifth Circuit judges to the MAGA Supreme Court justices with the aim of finishing the unpopular, dirty work their allies in the legislative branch don’t have the political support to do themselves.
While they didn’t finish it this go around, this temporary reprieve offers no assurances and no cause to praise this Court. With a docket of related cases and decisions yet to come, the Supreme Court has plenty of opportunities to still deliver for their billionaire benefactors by gutting the government's ability to protect the American people.
With ongoing threats looming, our Members of Congress must cut off these attacks at the source by fixing the Court.”
