VIDEO: Rep. Ro Khanna Says Political Reform Is Necessary to Deliver for Working People
At the Pennsylvania economic roundtable, Khanna connects reforms to the political system with building an economy that works for working people
LINWOOD, PA (August 3, 2026) — At an economic roundtable in Linwood on Saturday, Representative Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) said that reforming America’s political system is necessary to build an economy that delivers for working people.
Khanna made the remarks during “Protecting Workers & PA Communities: What the Future Economy Should Look Like in an AI World,” part of the Made in PA: New Economic Patriotism Tour.
In response to a question about which structural reforms he would prioritize, Khanna addressed how changes to the political system could help ensure that government is capable of delivering on its economic promises.

“We definitely need political reform to be able to get the type of democracy and economic reform that I have been talking about… We should be talking about the corruption and the need for political reform with more urgency and passion,” Khanna said.
The exchange reflects a growing recognition that addressing high costs, stagnant wages, economic insecurity, and the disruption created by artificial intelligence will require more than individual policy proposals. It will also require confronting a political system in which wealthy interests wield disproportionate influence and widely supported policies are routinely blocked.
Khanna was also asked why he thinks many democrats aren't pushing for this structural change.
The question was part of the Future on Record Tour, a United for Democracy campaign, which asks candidates and elected officials what structural reforms they will prioritize so that America’s political system can deliver meaningful economic progress for working people.
The tour is documenting where political leaders stand and helping elevate a question that too often goes unanswered: If the current political system repeatedly prevents government from acting on the issues Americans care about most, what will our leaders do to change the system itself?
